I’ve always been intrigued by the juxtaposition of nature and man made structures. Nature is in a constant cycle of life and death and renewal, but things can only get old and worn unless they are consistently maintained and fixed up. Whenever anything man made is abandoned, eventually the earth will consume it. It will be buried by sands, overgrown by plants, rusted by water, faded by sun or eroded by weather.
This afternoon I wandered around his parents’ backyard with my camera looking for something beautiful. There’s something so sad about an old, abandoned playground. This one used to be Eric’s childhood fort and swing set. Luckily Christie is going to be fixing it up in the coming months so Micah can play in it. I imagine it’s going to take a lot of work. I think a family of wasps has taken residence in the fort. We’ll have to make sure they have been evicted before little buddy can climb up into his daddy’s old stomping grounds.
Christie planted these flowers a few weeks ago. They are gorgeous! Nothing says “spring” like new blooms. And to think that creation is only a tiny glimpse of the glory of God…
